Schematic corridors · not railway track geometry

The route, explained

Through Basel to Zürich.

Use the direct TGV Lyria as the starting point for a city-to-city trip. Basel lies on this corridor, but passing through it and visiting it are different choices. Add a stay only when you want time outside the station.

Starting route

Direct TGV Lyria

Paris → Basel → Zurich

TGV Lyria links Paris Gare de Lyon and Zürich HB through Basel. You can remain on the through train when it is available. Search the endpoints to compare the timetable without requiring an extra change in Basel.

Another way

Make time for Basel

Paris → Basel → Zurich

Add a night in Basel before continuing to Zürich. This creates a two-city Swiss trip rather than an interchange. Look at the arrival time in Basel and the next day's departure together to decide how much time you actually gain.

Start at Gare de Lyon

The Paris departure is Gare de Lyon, not Gare du Nord. If you arrive in Paris on Eurostar, plan the station transfer before the TGV Lyria. Search the complete trip from London when you want that connection included.

Finish at Zürich HB

Zürich Hauptbahnhof is the main arrival station for the direct corridor. If you are continuing towards Italy, make the next stage explicit: a Paris–Zürich ticket alone does not include the onward journey to Milan.

Before you set off

Do I have to change in Basel?

Not on a through Paris–Zürich TGV Lyria. Some date-specific results may include a connection; inspect the itinerary rather than treating Basel on the map as a mandatory change.

Can I continue to Milan?

Yes, Zürich can be part of a Swiss–Italian itinerary. See the Paris–Milan guide for that longer corridor and compare a stay with a same-day connection in the planner.
