Two travel days, one Alpine crossing

London toRome.By train.

Reach Rome through Lille, Lyon, Turin and Milan, with a night in Lyon along the way.

Schematic corridors · not railway track geometry

The route, explained

The Lyon corridor, ending in Rome.

Start with the same France–Italy corridor as the Naples journey, then choose Rome as your final stop. The itinerary is built around a night in Lyon, leaving room to compare the onward departure from Milan.

Starting route

Lyon to Italy

London → Lille → Lyon → Turin → Milan → Rome

Change from Eurostar to TGV at Lille and spend the night in Lyon. Continue on Frecciarossa through Turin to Milan, then take the onward service to Rome. The planner includes the Lyon stay; Turin is shown as part of the corridor.

Another way

A night in Paris

London → Paris → Turin → Milan → Rome

Use Paris as your first overnight stop, then head towards Milan. Allow for the transfer between the Eurostar arrival station and the Italian departure station. This is a different city break, not just a renamed version of the Lyon route.

Another way

Add Zürich

London → Paris → Zurich → Milan → Rome

Make Switzerland part of the trip with a stop in Zürich before Milan. Compare the extra connections and daily travel time. Pick this corridor when the intermediate stop matters to you as much as the final arrival.

Termini or Tiburtina?

Roma Termini is the central terminus, while Roma Tiburtina also serves high-speed trains. Check the station in the result against where you are staying. A train calling at Rome is not necessarily a train calling at Termini.

Choose your last travel day

On a multi-day trip, review the Milan connection together with your arrival in Rome. An earlier final arrival may be more useful than a shorter total trip with a late finish. Use the planner to compare both, then book with the operators.

Before you set off

Why travel via Lille and Lyon?

This route avoids changing stations in Paris. Lille is the connection into France, and Lyon is the planned overnight stop before the Frecciarossa corridor to Turin and Milan.

Can I continue from Rome to Naples?

Yes, Naples is a separate onward destination on Italy's high-speed network. See the London–Naples guide if you want the whole trip to finish there, or add Naples in the planner after a stay in Rome.
