The route, explained

A direct journey, or time in southern France.

For the straightforward trip, search Paris and Barcelona without forcing intermediate changes. A stay in Montpellier makes a different itinerary with more time in southern France. Check the station before choosing it as your stopping point.

Starting route

Direct TGV to Sants

Paris → Montpellier → Perpignan → Barcelona

The direct TGV links Paris Gare de Lyon with Barcelona Sants. The map sketches the southern France corridor rather than every station call. Search the two endpoints to compare departures and any alternatives offered for your date.

Another way

A night in Montpellier

Paris → Montpellier → Barcelona

Break the trip in Montpellier and continue the next day. Saint-Roch and Sud de France are different stations, so inspect the arrival and departure when choosing a stay. This option changes the pace of the trip rather than promising a faster connection.

Not every Montpellier station is central

Montpellier Saint-Roch is in the city centre; Montpellier Sud de France is outside it. A city-wide search can return either. Include the local transfer when comparing an overnight stop with the direct Paris–Barcelona journey.

Returning from Barcelona

High-speed departures from Barcelona Sants include a baggage security check before access to the platforms. Follow the operator's boarding guidance, especially when your next journey begins there. Arrival by train and departure by train use different processes.

Before you set off

Does the direct train arrive in central Barcelona?

It arrives at Barcelona Sants, not at a station called Barcelona city centre. Plan the local journey from Sants to your destination and check the arrival station on the ticket.

Can I split the journey in southern France?

Yes. The Montpellier option starts a search with an overnight stay there. Confirm the station pair and the onward trains for the next day before booking separate legs.
