The experience

Along the fjord

Oslo's harbour promenade links waterfront neighbourhoods past piers, public spaces and contemporary buildings. The Opera House's sloping roof opens toward views across the fjord.

The river corridor

Akerselva winds through parks and former industrial districts before reaching the harbour. Following its banks reveals a greener side of the Norwegian capital.

Across Dovrefjell

The route leaves the shores of Lake Mjøsa and follows Gudbrandsdalen toward Dovrefjell. Open upland scenery gives way to Drivdalen and the lower country approaching Trondheim.

By the river

Trondheim grew along the Nidelva, where wooden wharves recall its trading past. Its compact streets mix medieval landmarks with a lively student culture.

Over the Arctic mountains

Beyond Trondheim, cultivated valleys give way to high mountain scenery. The route crosses Saltfjellet and passes the Arctic Circle before descending through northern fjords toward Bodø.

Stay 3 nights in BodøBooking.com

A city by the open sea

Bodø's harbour and cultural spaces meet a wide northern coastline. The surrounding Salten region brings islands, mountains and sea close to the city.

Dark skies above the coast

Autumn and winter bring long dark evenings to this northern coast. Clear skies and natural activity shape what may be visible, so allow more than one night for looking.

Practical info

Aurora season

Bodø's northern-lights season generally extends from September to April. Dark surroundings, clear skies and natural activity affect visibility, so allow several nights and treat a sighting as a possibility.

Winter conditions

Northern winter brings short daylight and changeable weather. Bring warm layers and sturdy footwear, and keep outdoor plans flexible.

Plan the route

The journey crosses high mountain country before reaching the north coast. Check current connections and seasonal travel details for your dates before making plans.
